CODY, KAPTUR, KRISEL, POWELSON, AND MORE:
Discover the hidden mid-century architectural gems of Rancho Mirage on a 'Mod Mirage' walking tour led by local historian and author, Melissa Riche. Rancho Mirage - near Palm Springs - is also a treasure trove of mid-century architecture. But unlike its neighboring city, many homes are well hidden. 'Mod Mirage' tours take you on quiet, public streets behind Tamarisk Country Club.
Highlights are significant, historic homes (exteriors only) designed by famed desert modernist architects Hugh Kaptur, William F. Cody, Donald Wexler, William Krisel, and Val Powelson's gull-wing Maranz House. Discover the remarkable history of Tama risk Country Club and the celebrities who lived there including Frank Sinatra, the Marx Brothers and many more.
Learn about the development of resort communities by Cody and Krisel: Cody Court, Valley of the Sun, and Tamarisk Ranchos where the tour ends in the gardens. Cody Court and Tama risk Ranchos are the city's first two designated historic districts.
Walks are approximately 1.5 miles total on quiet, flat public roads, and take two hours. Suitable for fit and healthy walkers, but wheelchairs are welcome.
